Welcome to Caboolture Cruise & Travel
From the moment I touched down in this high-altitude oasis, I knew I was in for something extraordinary. Nestled at the foot of the Andes and blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Mendoza feels like it was made for indulgence and adventure in equal measure.
Wine is the heartbeat of Mendoza, and for lovers of fine drops, this region is nothing short of paradise. Home to more than 1,200 wineries (locally known as bodegas), the choices can be almost overwhelming - but in the best way. Most travellers come here in pursuit of Malbec, and rightly so; it’s rich, velvety, and perfectly expressive of Mendoza’s terroir. But during my visit, I discovered a rising star that completely captivated me: Cabernet Franc.
This elegant varietal is slowly but surely emerging from the shadows, and here in Mendoza, it thrives. Thanks to the region’s high-altitude vineyards, with warm sunny days and crisp, cool nights, the Cabernet Francs here are lighter, more aromatic, and bursting with character — red berries, soft herbs, and a silky finish that lingers just long enough to make you reach for another sip.
One of my most memorable afternoons was spent at a boutique winery tucked away in the Uco Valley. With the Andes rising like giants in the distance and a glass of Cabernet Franc in hand, I enjoyed a traditional asado - smoky, succulent cuts of beef grilled over open flames. This is more than just a meal in Mendoza; it’s a ritual. A celebration of flavour, community, and connection.
But Mendoza is not just for wine aficionados. It’s also a playground for thrill-seekers and nature lovers. One day, I traded my wine glass for hiking boots and set off toward Aconcagua - South America’s highest peak. While I didn’t summit (that’s an expedition for the serious mountaineers), just trekking partway through the foothills was enough to leave me awestruck. The air was cool and crisp, the sky impossibly blue, and the silence so profound it felt sacred.
If hiking isn't your pace, there’s white-water rafting, zip-lining, horseback riding, and hot-air ballooning - all offering unique perspectives of this breathtaking landscape. One of the highlights of my stay was a gentle horseback ride at sunset through the vineyards, with the golden light casting long shadows and the scent of eucalyptus on the breeze. It was pure magic.
After the mountains and the wine estates, Mendoza city was a delightful surprise. It's charming yet sophisticated, with a strong European influence that shows in its architecture, food, and lifestyle. Wide, leafy boulevards are lined with stylish cafés and wine bars. Locals linger over long lunches and late-night dinners, and there’s always music in the air.
Plaza Independencia, the city’s central square, is a hub of activity and culture. I stumbled upon a street performance one evening - music, tango, and bursts of laughter filled the air as locals and visitors gathered around. A short stroll from the plaza took me to artisan markets, where I found handcrafted leather goods, colourful textiles, and delicious regional treats.
Timing your visit with the Vendimia Festival (held every March) adds an entirely new layer to the experience. This annual grape harvest celebration is a riot of colour and joy - parades, music, dance, and fireworks light up the city. It’s a deep expression of Mendoza’s love for its land and traditions, and an unforgettable spectacle for any traveller.
Mendoza has a rhythm all its own — a harmony of adventure and tranquility, indulgence and authenticity. It’s the kind of destination that caters to all kinds of travellers:
